Author’s Note from Within This Frame:
We all struggle with our looks—we think we should look a certain
way, we think others expect us to look a certain way. It makes it hard
to love ourselves, and when you can’t be confident with who you are, the
people around you don’t as easily see that light we all have inside us.
I myself have fought against my own vicious thoughts; that voice inside
my head that tells me I need to eat less, be skinny, skinny, skinny.
That nothing I ever do is good enough. That I’m ugly. That I’m
worthless.
I hate that voice. That voice is a bitch.
I know it’s hard to think we’re beautiful when the mirror is telling
us otherwise, but that’s just a mirror—an insignificant, inanimate
object that means nothing as far as our worth. Find something you like
about yourself, tell yourself one thing unique that sets you apart from
others. Believe that you’re strong. Smash the mirrors—figuratively if
not literally—and know you’re more powerful than any lifeless piece of
matter can ever be. You’re more than anyone and anything around you. Be
the voice that lifts you up. You have to protect yourself, even if it’s
from you. One simple sentence, if repeated often enough, can change your
world: You are strong, you are beautiful, and you are loved.
And damn it, give yourself a hug, and love that imperfect body and that not so perfect face. They are yours. Own them.
Blurb:
It comes in the mail—a beautiful invitation that promises humiliation
and horror. Unless Maggie Smiley, former child celebrity and now
overweight recluse, gets her courage and motivation in check, along with
her health.
The phone call offering fitness expert Lance Denton a chance to work
with Maggie Smiley promises retribution. He messed up a lot as a punk
kid on the too-fast road to stardom, and how he treated his co-star
never left him. It is that—and a long list of secrets she doesn’t need
to know—that has him show up at Maggie’s doorstep.
My Review:
For those who have trouble viewing themselves as a person who deserves to be loved and cherished, one who can look in the mirror and see the beauty they possess, this is the story for you. Lance and Maggie's story starts when they are young and not in full control of their emotions. Mistakes are made and both are hurt enough that they don't know how they will ever get over that pain. Then one day a letter arrives and it scares this couple. The love they once felt so strongly still exists but so are the feelings of pain and anger. As they come together through a job Lance now has the anger is still there and it seems difficult to handle the instruction Maggie must endure. The answer will be found, one way or the other, but is it enough for Lance and Maggie to finally reach their happily ever after? To find out, read this amazing story of love, loss, and a second chance.
